原文：The world's coal market experienced an unexpected revival in 2017, according to an annual energy round-up from BP an oil firm. The uptick was driven partly by a resurgence of demand for coal in China, which increased by 0.5% year on year, after falling for three consecutive years. Although China is attempting to diversify away from the dirtiest fuels, it used more coal to satisfy its growing electricity demand.

u 写作和翻译句型推荐：diversify away from sth：包含了两个意思，一个是离开什么，一个是走向多样化，所以翻译的时候我们要根据后面的sth来翻译，翻译为从...转向多样化的什么或从...转向其他...，比如《金融时报》里面有这样一句话The Chinese desire to diversify away from the dollar comes as many oil exporters have expressed a similar wish. 中国希望从美元转向多元化的储备货币，与此同时，许多石油出口国也表达了类似愿望。其中diversify away from the dollar 翻译为从美元转向多元化的储备货币。比如《金融时报》里面有这样一句话The funds would be better spent helping the Midwest diversify away from cars. 这笔资金还不如用于帮助美国中西部经济从汽车转向其它领域。diversify away from the dirtiest fuels就是从煤炭转向其他清洁能源。以后要表达既离开什么，同时走向多样化的时候，别忘记使用diversify away from sth.

u 这里我们讲一个很好用的小词satisfy，很多人都会用它的形容词形式satisfied表示满意的，但其实它作动词的时候也非常好用。除了满意以外，它还可以用作满足（需求、需要等）本文中就用到了这个意思：satisfy its growing electricity demand满足持续增加的电力需求，我们再来看一个例句：She failed to satisfy all the requirements for entry to the college.她没有达到进入那所学院的全部要求。（《牛津词典》）除了满足要求，我们还可以表达满足好奇心：to satisfy sb’s curiosity 或者是：让某人解饿satisfy one’s hunger. 例句：The food wasn't enough to satisfy his hunger .这食物不足以让他解饿。（《牛津词典》）

原文：The global power sector still remains heavily dependent on coal, too. Despite growth in the use of renewables in recent years, and efforts to shift power generation away from coal, it accounts for around two-fifths of the total. the same share as two decades ago.

v 写作和翻译句型推荐：Despite growth in sth（the use of sth） in recent years：汉语喜动，英语喜名词，所以我们这里没有翻译为although,而是使用了despite growth, 以后碰到”尽管“不要都翻译为句子although...,根据语境学习使用despite。比如尽管支出在增加，但“国民医疗保健服务的质量却明显下降了”The National Health Service has visibly deteriorated, despite increased spending 。

v shift away from...：将...转移/摆脱...，比如下面这句As international reserves soar I detect amongst reserve managers a desire to shift away from the dollar. 随着国际储备激增，我发觉许多国家的储备管理机构都有意避开美元。（《金融时报》）
