据中国地震台网消息，6月17日22时55分四川省宜宾市长宁县发生6.0级地震，震源深度16千米。据最新消息，截至18日早晨8点30分，四川宜宾地震已经造成12人死亡，125人受伤。震后40分钟内，灾区发生了多次余震，目前最大余震5.3级。300多名消防人员赶赴灾区。应急管理部同国家粮食和物资储备局已向地震灾区运送了5000顶帐篷、1万张折叠床和2万床棉被。救援工作在暴雨中进行。

据中国地震台网消息，6月17日22时55分四川省宜宾市长宁县发生6.0级地震，震源深度16千米。

1. 句子结构分析：句子主干是“A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rattled Changning county of Yibin”；“according to the China Earthquake Networks Center”提到开头，先说“据……消息”，再说消息是什么。

3. rattle美[ˈrætl]：一词多义。这个词作动词可以表示“（使）发出震颤（或碰撞）声;（使）发出格格声”。它可以用来表示某地发生了地震，或是地震中建筑物晃动的场景。

如《华尔街日报》上有句话是这么说的：

The earthquake rattled buildings in Kitakami.

日本北上市（Kitakami）发生了地震，建筑物剧烈晃动。

它也可以表示“（巴士、火车或汽车）哐啷哐啷地行进，轰隆隆地开过”。如Somewhere close at hand a train rattled by. 一辆火车从我的身边轰隆隆地开过；

还可以表示“使紧张，使慌乱，使恐惧”。如经济学人上所说：

各粮食进口国慌乱失措的原因不仅仅是价格上涨。

原文的“A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rattled”是“使发出震颤声”的意思，在这里指“发生地震”之意。

“某地发生地震”还可以用happen/take place/hit/strike.

happen：A terrible earthquake happened in China in 2008. 2008年中国发生了一场大地震。

take place：A strong earthquake took place. 一场强烈地震发生了。

hit：比如报道中在介绍此次长宁地震时就是这么说的：The quake hit at about 10.55pm local time。 

strike：还是经济学人上的句子：What they cannot say is precisely when and where the next one will strike. 他们无法准确说出下一次地震是什么时候，在什么地方。

4. Changning county of Yibin：宜宾市长宁县。“county”是“县”。

总结一下中国各级行政区域的英译名称。根据《中华人民共和国宪法》(外文出版社,1999年第4版英汉本)，有以下规定：

直辖市 municipality directly under the Central Government；自治州 autonomous prefecture；县 county(自治县autonomous county)；市 city；乡 township；民族乡ethnic township；镇 town；村 village。

7. at a depth of 16km：震源深度16千米。“震源深度”的固定表达，“at a depth of +距离”。如Its epicentre was reported to be about 30 miles offshore from Padang, at a depth of about 53 miles. 据报道，震中距离巴东海岸约30英里，震源深度约53英里。

“震源深度”还可以用“距离+deep”。经济学人上是这么说的：

With the epicentre only 20km from the central city and the quake only 10km deep, the whole city got a mighty shaking.

此次地震的震中距离中心城市仅20公里之遥，震源深度只有10公里，整个城市剧烈晃动。

补充：“震中”是“epicentre”。

8. China Earthquake Networks Center：简称CENC，“中国地震台网”或“中国地震台网中心”。中国地震台网中心于2004年10月18日成立，它是中国地震局直属事业单位，是我国防震减灾工作的重要业务枢纽、 核心技术平台和基础信息国际交流的重要窗口。

据最新消息，截至18日早晨8点30分，四川宜宾地震已经造成12人死亡，125人受伤。

1. claim：熟词偏意。claim作动词时有一个含义是“(战争、疾病、事故)夺去(生命)，导致(死亡)”。“造成12人死亡”这里说的是“claimed 12 lives”。

claim也可以说kill。经济学人提到海地地震时是这么说的：

海地地震夺去了20万人的生命，仅仅6周后，又一场大地震袭击了拉美。

也可以说cause deaths或leave...dead。

2. left 125 people injured：125人受伤。left 125 people injured也可以说injured 125 people。

如另一篇文章是这么报道长宁地震的：

中国四川省宜宾市长宁县发生6.0级地震，造成12人死亡，122人受伤。（数字不同是因为消息在不断更新中）

3. as of+时间，表示“在……时；截至”。例如《华尔街日报》上的这句话：

As of late Thursday, the walkout was still in effect, the plant manager said.

工厂经理说，截至周四晚上，罢工仍在继续。

所以这里的“as of 8:30 am Tuesday”指的就是“截至18日早晨8点30分”的意思。

震后40分钟内，灾区发生了多次余震，目前最大余震5.3级。

1. aftershocks：aftershock的复数，指（地震后的）余震。它也可以表示“余震”，指市场崩塌、风波等残留的影响和冲击，如 the aftershock from a bond market crash 债券市场崩塌的余震。

“余震”有时也会直接用“earthquakes”表示。18年11月CATTI二笔英译汉就考过这个：

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said Sunday the island had experienced more than 500 earthquakes - 13 with a magnitude greater than 4.0 -- in the 24 hours following the 6.9-magnitude quake.

2. took place，它的同义词是happened、hit、struck。

3. in the following 40 minutes：在接下来的40分钟里。表示接下来的一段时间，可以写作“in the following +时间段”。

但是如果描述的对象并不是那么明确，比如刚刚提到的二笔真题里，“in the 24 hours following the 6.9-magnitude quake”，就不能直接写为“in the following 24 hours”，必须指明是在6.9级地震后的24小时内。

300多名消防人员赶赴灾区。

1. dispatch美[dɪˈspætʃ]：作动词表示“派遣，调遣；”。

《华尔街日报》上有这么一句话：

Adm. Allen, then the Coast Guard's commandant, was dispatched to the scene;

当时已担任美国海岸警卫队司令的艾伦被派到事发现场考察情况。

表示“发送，发出（信息，信件或包裹）”。如Goods are dispatched within 24 hours of your order reaching us. 订单到达我方24小时内发货。它的同义词是send。

作名词则专指“(身在另一城市或国家的记者发送的)电讯，新闻报道”，如this despatch from our West Africa correspondent … 我台驻西非记者发来的这一报道；或是“(军官或政府官员发送给总部的)急件，快信”。例如I was carrying dispatches from the ambassador. 我正拿着大使的急件。

原文的“have been dispatched to”就是“被派往某地”的意思。中文变被动为主动，翻译为“赶赴……”。

2. the scene：scene在这里的意思“(事情发生的)地点，现场”，指“灾区，地震灾区”，也就是下文的“the quake-hit areas”。dispatched to the scene可以替换成“sent to the quake-hit areas”。

应急管理部同国家粮食和物资储备局已向地震灾区运送了5000顶帐篷、1万张折叠床和2万床棉被。

1. The ministry and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration ：注意这是两个机构。

“The ministry”指“应急管理部”。中华人民共和国应急管理部，是国务院26个组成部门之一。按照分级负责的原则，一般性灾害由地方各级政府负责，应急管理部代表中央统一响应支援；发生特别重大灾害时，应急管理部作为指挥部，协助中央指定的负责同志组织应急处置工作。

“the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration”指“国家粮食和物资储备局”。国家粮食和物资储备局是中华人民共和国国家发展和改革委员会管理的国家局。它主要负责根据国家储备总体发展规划和品种目录，组织实施国家战略和应急储备物资的收储、轮换、管理。

3. quilt美[kwɪlt]：名词，指“被子，被褥，棉被”。 

4. 5,000 tents, 10,000 folding beds and 20,000 quilts：5000顶帐篷、1万张折叠床和2万床棉被。注意数字的写法。翻译成中文时“5000”没有逗号。

救援工作在暴雨中进行。

1. A rescue mission：“mission”是“任务，职责”的意思，但这里不是“救援任务”，而是“救援工作”。

2. underway：adj. 表示“进行中的，已开始的”。“sth. be underway”是固定表达，意思是“……已经开始/在进行中”。

经济学人上有句话是这么说的：

On a nearby parade ground, preparations are underway for a graduation ceremony that will take place in a few days.

不远处的操场上，人们正在为几天后的毕业典礼做准备。

再比如说“调查还在进行中”，the investigation is underway。

“underway”也可以写作“under way”，同样表示“进行着/进行中”之意。

举个例子，《华尔街日报》上说：

That museum was also destroyed, and a salvage effort is under way there as well.

这座博物馆也被毁掉了，目前那里也在进行抢救行动。

因此，“A rescue mission is underway”也可以替换成“Rescue efforts are under way. ”。

3. “在暴雨中做某事”，用的介词是in，in heavy rain。
