Canalys（英国一家权威市场调研机构）报告中预计，2019年全球智能音箱保有量将超过智能可穿戴设备，2021年将超过平板电脑。智能音箱正在成为新的主流智能硬件，走进千家万户。

最新一期经济学人Technology Quarterly版块有一篇文章叫作Tech firms think the home is the next big computing platform，就介绍了这一变化（智能音箱：下一代家庭计算平台）。

其中有一句是这么说的：

Canalys, a market-research firm, reckons that 78m smart speakers were sold in 2018, more than double the number in 2017, with Amazon and Google accounting for roughly a third each, and products from Alibaba, Xiaomi and Baidu, a trio of Chinese tech giants, making up most of the rest.

市场调研机构Canalys估计，2018年全球智能音箱总出货量达到7800万台，是2017年的两倍之多。其中，亚马逊、谷歌分别占有近三分之一市场份额，中国三大科技巨头阿里巴巴、小米以及百度则占据余下大部分市场。

从这句话中我们可以学到这样几个知识点：

1. 句子结构分析：句子主干是“Canalys reckons that 78m smart speakers were sold in 2018”；“a market-research firm”是“Canalys”的同位语；“more than double the number in 2017”是“78m smart speakers”的补充成分；“with Amazon and Google accounting for …”是with结构表伴随；两个现在分词结构“accounting for”和“making up”并列；“a trio of Chinese tech giants”是“Alibaba, Xiaomi and Baidu”的同位语。

2. reckon：reckon的含义很多。A. 它可以表示“料想，估计”，sb. reckon that。如经济学人上所说：Analysts reckon that the number of smartphones sold in 2018 will be slightly lower than  in 2017,  the industry’s first ever annual decline. 分析师预计，2018年智能手机销量将略低于2017年，这将成为该行业有史以来年度销量首次下滑；B. 表示“期望”。我们说“有望怎么怎么样”，sth. reckon to do。The merged banks reckon to raise 4 billion dollars of new equity next year. 几家银行合并后明年有望增发40亿美元的新股；C. 它还可以表示“认为”。比如The sale has been held up because the price is reckoned to be too high. 销售陷入停滞，因为大家认为价格太高了。原文的“reckon”是“预计，估计”的意思。

3. smart speakers：智能音箱，是一个音箱升级的产物，是家庭消费者用语音进行上网的一个工具，比如点播歌曲、上网购物，或是了解天气预报，它也可以对智能家居设备进行控制，比如打开窗帘、设置冰箱温度、提前让热水器升温等。

4. 78m smart speakers were sold in 2018：2018年全球智能音箱总出货量达到7800万台。售出多少台智能音箱，专业表达是“出货量”。如果是手机，比如上面的“the number of smartphones sold”一般说“手机销量”。

5. “翻一番，是两倍”：double sth.。“double”表示“翻一番”。比如发展权白皮书中的现代化建设“三步走”战略目标：第一步，1981年到1990年，国民生产总值翻一番，解决人民的温饱问题 First, to double the 1981 GNP and ensure the provision of basic material needs by 1990；“国民生产总值翻一番”，to double the 1981 GNP。所以原文的“more than double the number in 2017”就表示“是2017年的两倍之多；比2017年翻了一番还多”。

6. “占据市场份额”：可以说“account for”，也可以说“make up”。举两个例子，A. 世行官网：The region imports 40 percent of its rice supplies, accounting for a third of the rice traded in global markets. 该地区水稻供应量的40%依赖进口，占全球市场上水稻贸易额的三分之一；B. 《华尔街日报》：Europe is the biggest market for Chinese exports, making up 20% of the total.欧洲是中国最大的出口市场，占总出口的比重达20%。

7. “三，三个”：a trio of，表达数字“三”的概念。比如经济学人上的这句话：Sheltering from a rainstorm in an abandoned factory, the boys encounter a trio of tramps. 这些男孩在一间废弃的工厂里躲雨时遇到了三个流浪汉。还比如，a trio of young ladies 三位年轻女士。原文的“ a trio of Chinese tech giants”即“三家中国科技巨头”。“giant”表示“巨头”。
