1. “ground”的熟词偏意

8.17这一期经济学人上有一篇文章讲到了德国经济，它的标题是Ground to a halt，这是个固定表达，意思是“停顿，停止，终止”。

如：But the competition for talent has by no means ground to a halt, and lower-level hiring is still taking place. 不过抢夺人才的竞争并没有停止，针对较低端人才的招聘仍在继续。从正文标题“The economy has shrunk”可以看出，这里的“ground to halt”指的是“经济”（the economy）。

ground还可以表示“停飞”。如：The civil aviation minister ordered all the planes to be grounded. 民航部长下令所有飞机不得起飞。

2. “问题产生自内部原因？外部原因？”怎么说？

针对德国经济萎缩，出现了不同意见。首先，德国经济下滑是内部原因还是外部原因造成？：First, are Germany’s woes home-made or imported?

C. “the main driver of”也可以表示“是……的主要原因”，相当于“the main reason for”。

4. “可能……”用“prospect”怎么说？

The prospect of a no deal Brexit are largely out of the hands of Angela Merkel’s government.

从这句话中我们可以学习到“The prospect of”这个表达，表示“可能……”。如：the prospect of new easing measures 可能出台新的宽松政策。“The prospect of a no deal Brexit”即“英国可能无协议脱欧”。

5. “对……施加重税”怎么说？
