H.E. Mr. CHENG Xueyuan, new Ambassador-designate of the People's Republic of China to Sri Lanka has arrived at Colombo by UL869 early morning today(21). Amb. CHENG and his family were received at the Bandaranaike International Airport by representatives from Protocol Division of MFA, Sri Lanka-China friendship associations, overseas Chinese enterprises and communities, as well as the Embassy officials.

On the arrival, Amb. CHENG made warm and brief remarks to all present at the airport, which are quoted herewith:

“女士们，先生们，朋友们：

"Ladies and gentlemen,

Dear friends,

大家早上好！斯里兰卡，你好！

Good morning! Ayubowan Sri Lanka!

十分感谢各位专程来到机场，给我温暖、周到而真挚的欢迎。让我一踏上斯里兰卡这片美丽的国土，就有回到家的感觉。

I’m very grateful to you for giving me this warm, sincere and heartfelt welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport in a very early morning. I feel very much at home the moment I set foot on this beautiful island of Sri Lanka.

早在读中学时，我就从地理和历史课本中知道了印度次大陆的东南方、浩瀚的印度洋上，有着锡兰这个美丽的国家。它拥有纯净的海滩，丰富的热带动植物，古老的城堡，更有被佛法浸润的美丽国度。这里的人民勤劳、勇敢、智慧、善良、热情、包容，能歌善舞，多才多艺。随处可见盛开的鲜花，随处也可见花一般的笑脸。这里有炫目的宝石，浓郁的红茶，辽阔的海洋，还有原生态的山川、河流、大象、猴子……打心里，我喜欢如诗如画的兰卡，期待着领略兰卡璀璨的历史文化、多姿多彩的风土人情、蒸蒸日上的社会经济发展，期待着兰卡每一个新变化、新成就。

Ever since my middle school age, I learned from geography and history textbooks about this picturesque country of Ceylon, locating to the southeast of the Indian Subcontinent and at the centre of the vast Indian Ocean. With pure beaches, abundant flora and fauna, ancient cities and castles, and great Buddhist traditions, its people are hard-working, brave, talented and kind, not to mention they are enthusiastic, generous and gifted in many ways. In Sri Lanka, flowers and smiles reflect each other and could be seen everywhere. There are not only splendid gemstones, fragrant Ceylon tea, vast bluewaters, but also mountains, rivers, elephants and monkeys, to name just a few. I fall in love with this beautiful country from the bottom of my heart. And I am looking forward to experiencing its rich history, culture and customs, and cheering every change and achievement its people have made.

中斯友谊源远流长。国之交在于民心之相通；有相知，虽远尤邻。且不说郑和下西洋那些久远的故事，伟大的《米胶协定》就凝聚和体现了中斯两国人民的深情厚意。两国人民的伟大友谊，随着岁月的推进，愈久弥芳。作为中华人民共和国驻斯里兰卡民主社会主义共和国第21任大使，我真诚期待与兰卡各界人士成为好同事、好朋友、好伙伴，期待与大家一道扎实推进中斯全面战略伙伴关系、共建“一带一路”，落实好既有的各项合作决议，在两国领导人的引领下，努力构建中斯命运共同体，不断增进两国人民的福址；在合作共贏的基础上，共同促进本地区的和平、稳定和繁荣。微博@高斋翻硕 公众号:高斋翻译学堂

The friendship between China and Sri Lanka dates back a couple of millennium. We strongly believe this history-tested friendship between our two peoples is the solid foundation of excellent relations between our two countries. Zheng He and his fleet's voyages started 6 centries ago, while the Rice-Rubber Pact in middle of 20th century represented the deep affection between our two peoples. No countries are far apart if they have friendship. We are fully confident that our great friendship has been becoming closer and closer as time goes on. As the 21st Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I sincerely wish to make great friends with people of all circles on this Island, and look forward to promoting the China-Sri Lanka strategic partnership as well as join building the Belt and Road Initiative, and implementing the cooperative agreements. Under the great guidance from leaders of our two countries, we are ready to jointly build a China-Sri Lanka community of shared destiny and improve the wellbeing of the two peoples. On the basis of win-win cooperation, we will also work together to promote the peace, stability and prosperity of this region.
