这句话中，主语是“the new research”，谓语是“reveals”，宾语从句是that... 在that 从句中，句子结构为“主(the need to know)系表( is so strong )”结构，然后又是so...that...结构，that里面是people will seek to satisfy their curiosity主谓结构。

其中“even when it is clear the answer will hurt”作“the need to know is so strong that people will seek to satisfy their curiosity ”的让步状语从句。

2. 该句中两个空，均考察词汇辨析。前两句引出了科学实验，紧接着在此进一步引出了实验结果，即“虽然答案明显会令人受伤，但因求知欲强烈，人们也会设法去满足好奇心”。

现在让我们分别来看一下两个题目中答案的含义，

其他类似的表达还有“as revealed in...”，“sth. shows /demonstrates that...”等。

4. “satisfy their curiosity ”表示“满足...的好奇心”，其他有关“satisfy”的搭配还有“satisfy the need for 满足对...的需要”，“satisfy the interests of 满足...的利益”等。

5. “it is clear （that）...”表示“很明显...”，其中“that”可以省略。类似的表达还有“it is obviously/evident/apparent that...”等。

6. “hurt”既可以vi.也可以作vt.。①作为vt.时，后面要接宾语，意为“伤害，使受伤”。例如，“Jane hurt her finger. 简弄伤了自己的手指。”

②作为vi.时，后面则不需要接宾语，意为“疼痛”。例如，“Joe’s back hurts.乔的背受伤了。”

③“hurt”常被用在被动语态里。例如，“Several people were hurt in the fire.许多人在这次火灾中受伤了。”

④“hurt”也可以用来描述出现的问题，意为“产生不良影响，损害”。例如，“High oil prices hurt the economy. 高昂的油价导致了经济不景气。”
