作者简介：乔治·奥威尔（George Orwell，1903年6月25日－1950年1月21日）是英国著名小说家、记者和社会评论家。代表作品有《动物庄园》，也译作《动物农场》（Animal Farm），该作品被公认为反乌托邦政治讽喻寓言。

人是唯一光消费不生产的生物。
1. creature [ˈkriːtʃər] n. 生物；动物；（具有某种特征的）人。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
What distinguishes homo sapiens from every other living creature is the mind.
智人和其他生物的区别在于大脑。
2. consume [kənˈsuːm] v. 消耗，耗费（燃料、能量、时间等）；吃；喝；饮；使充满（强烈的感情），如汉英大词典上有这么一句话：
The electricity industry consumes large amounts of fossil fuels.
电力工业消耗大量的矿物燃料。
第二句：He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits.
他不产奶，他不下蛋，他力气太小拉不动铁犁，他跑得太慢抓不到兔子。
1. give milk 产奶。
2. lay eggs 下蛋。
3. plough [plaʊ] n. 犁；北斗七星；大熊星座，如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
The soil sticks to the blade and blocks the plough
土粘在犁铧上，卡住了犁。
第三句：Yet he is lord of all the animals.
然而他却是所有动物的主人。
1. Yet在这里表示转折。
2. lord [lɔːrd] n.（英国）贵族；勋爵（英国贵族的称号）；阁下，大人，大臣；领主，如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
Good morrow to you, my lord.
早上好，主人。
第四句：He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself.
他强迫他们工作，只把最少的劳动成果还给他们充饥，剩下的则统统归他自己所有。
1. set sb to sth，让某人做某事。比如《呼啸山庄》中有这么一句话：
After the usual carols had been sung, we set them to songs and glees.
在颂歌唱毕之后，我们让他们尽兴的演唱。
2. give back to 回馈，回报，如金融时报上有这么一句话：
It's an opportunity to give back to the area and the people who are working here, she said.
这是一个机会，可以回馈该地区，并结识在这里工作的人，她表示。
3. prevent sb from doing sth 阻止某人做某事，使某人免于，如外研社英语同义词辨析词典上有这么一句话：
More exercise will prevent you from getting sick.
多锻炼你就不会生病了。
第五句：Our labour tills the soil, our dung fertilizes it, and yet there is not one of us that owns more than his bare skin.
我们卖力耕种土地，我们用粪便为它施肥，可是除了身上这张皮，我们却一无所有。
1. till [tɪl] v. 耕作；犁地，如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
Workers were singing as they tilled the rice paddy fields.
劳动者们一边耕犁稻田一边唱歌。
2.fertilize [ˈfɜːrtəlaɪz] v. 使受精；使受粉；使受胎；使受孕；施肥于，如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
The faeces contain nitrogen and it is that which fertilizes the desert soil.
粪便含氮，而正是氮可以肥化荒芜的土地。
3. more than 超过，除了，如华尔街日报上有这么一句话：
More than youth, ethnicity or even race, London's riots are about class and the growing divide between the classes.
除了年轻人、种族地位甚至人种之外，伦敦骚乱还关乎阶级以及日益严重的阶级分化。
第六句：All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.
全体动物都是平等的，但有些动物比其他动物更加平等。
1.equal [ˈiːkwəl] adj.（大小、数量、价值等）相同的，同样的；相等的；平等的，如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：
We are all equal in the sight of God.
在上帝眼里我们都是平等的。
2. others在文中指的是other animals。
